Visiting a family-run farm offers a unique glimpse into the heart of rural life and local traditions. At the end of October, I had the chance to explore the Akouris Fruit Farm in the village of Steno, Arkadias, nestled in the Peloponnese region of Greece. This visit was more than just a tour; it was an immersion into the rhythms of apple harvesting, the warmth of family hospitality, and the beginnings of a small-scale winemaking venture.

Whenever I'm in Iceland, I always enjoy taking short trips or day excursions in Southern Iceland, which consistently provides stunning natural beauty and vibrant small towns waiting to be explored. For anyone seeking a unique day trip with spectacular landscapes, rich local culture and delicious cuisine, this is the ideal destination.

Although I was tempted to try one of their winery flights, I opted for their 2024 white Merlot, appreciating its delicate aroma of white peach and subtle hint of citrus zest. This was followed by a glass of the delightful 2021 Mercato, an herbaceous red fruit table wine that truly hit the spot!

On Saturday, June 14th, 2025, I was invited to join American friends at an event rich in history and national pride—the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Army Grand Military Parade and Celebration in Washington DC. The blend of the Festival and the Parade filled the nation's capital with nostalgia and excitement, offering all of us a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
